Neighbourhood Galata is one of the most unique and prestigious areas of Varna – situated on the cape of the same name in the southern part of the city, it offers stunning panoramic views of Varna Bay, a mild maritime climate and a historical heritage stretching from antiquity to the present day. The history of Cape Galata is rich and multifaceted. Archaeological finds bear witness to settlement dating back to antiquity – Roman artefacts, fragments of medieval fortifications and the remains of ancient fishing villages have been discovered here. During the Roman era, the area was part of the territory of Odessos (ancient Varna), whilst in the Middle Ages it served as a strategic vantage point overlooking Varna Bay. The name „Galata“ is mentioned in historical documents as early as the 15th–16th centuries, during the period of Ottoman rule.
